Italy has strong 4G coverage in cities, along major tourist routes, and on the Amalfi Coast, though the deep countryside can be patchy. A travel eSIM saves you from hunting for a physical SIM in a Vodafone store on your first afternoon.
In Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan, Naples and the main tourist corridors, coverage is excellent. Rural Calabria, Sicily's interior, and Sardinia's remote coast can have weaker signals. Major train routes and motorways are generally well-covered.
If you are only visiting Italy, a country plan is more cost-effective. If your trip includes France, Croatia, or Greece, a European multi-country plan is better value. Farelah lets you compare both options side by side.
For a two-week Italian holiday using maps, booking apps, and sharing photos — 5–8 GB is a reasonable estimate. Heavy video sharing or working remotely from your Airbnb calls for 15 GB or an unlimited plan.
